Hi Bruce -

I scanned a lot of photos a few years ago and restoring the colors was
nowhere near as easy as it has become these days. In the past I
usually resorted to adjusting each color channel with levels or curves
in Photoshop or PictureWindow.

These days, if there is anything even close to neutral in the image,
the Lightroom white balance eyedropper tool can make the basic
adjustments with a click. It's uncanny how many times it gets the
photo close on the first try. After that, if you still need to
"adjust to taste" the individual channel adjustments are available in
the curves panel. But it's usually easier and good enough to use the
hsl sliders.

The time consuming part is correcting all of the dust spots. There is
so much crud embedded in the emulsion of these old slides. I rarely
have the patience to fix anything but the biggest most annoying spots.

These will never be works of art, but I can at least restore a few to
remind me of that vacation trip.
