Also, from an image in that discussion, it appears that he used eyeglass lenses and other lenses taken from existing optics. Probably not so much grinding lenses from plastic with toothpaste and ash (but that does sound more romantic). You will notice that all of his images are B&W. I would imagine that he did his own processing and. in addition, B&W takes care of those nasty chromatic aberrations.
