In March 2005 I bought a Sigma EF 500DG Super to use with my *istDS and
DS2. Worked OK but with the next Pentax generation it was good only for
manual use since it didn't match P-TTL. At the time Sigma offered a
free upgrade, but I used it as a good excuse to bring an AF540 into the
house, followed more recently by a Metz 58.
Fast forward to July 2013 and I'm looking at the Sigma and thinking it
might be worth the $10 postage to send it in a see if it's upgradeable
for the K-5 and, if so, how much Sigma would charge for said upgrade.
So...off it went to Sigma in NY on July 20. Ten days later UPS is at
the door with a package from Sigma - with my upgraded 500DG - no charge.
Always nice to have an extra backup.
