Yes, it certainly gets the point across.  It is indeed a drop that
would be fatal, and it is just off a hiking path that gets extremely
slippery when it rains.  The view is spectacular, so one can't help
creeping up close to the edge, but the sign is effective in reminding
hikers not to go too fal.
