My sister-in-law (a very good photographer) has one of those that she can't bear to part with, but rarely uses. The thing is as solid as a yacht anchor and just as heavy. It handles beautifully; the craftsmanship in the body and lenses is amazing. The metering head uses obsolete mercury batteries (she has some Wein air cells for the rare occasions she takes the camera out). It's fun to shoot with as long as one isn't going very far.

The Nikon F Photomic FTn was my first SLR camera, and is still one of my favorites. I always wanted a black paint one! I still have a few of my favorite Nikkor lenses, still like 'em a lot. I fitted plain prism finder and a type A screen ... My favorite configuration for a Nikon F. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gdgphoto/9500779621/lightbox It took me a year to finish a roll of Ilford XP2 Super 36 exposures ... I shot the first half of the roll with a pre-AI Nikkor-H 85mm f/1.8 (1969 vintage) and the latter half of the roll with a Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 AI-S (1978 vintage). No great art here, I was mostly just testing the camera to see what shape it is in ... pretty darn good, it seems. These old Nikon Fs are certainly durable lumpkins... :-) Enjoy!
