Well that made me hunt for the shooting mode button :-)
I've been shooting single frame only which I set in the menu... didn't
even know what that button was for in the "wheel" on the back of the
camera.

The K-5 (at least the ii version) and maybe earlier bodies have a feature I just discovered during
the workshop last week. The instructor was quite adamant about the "SR OFF" during our
shots using tripods, which was most of the time. He reminded everyone to turn SR back on when we
were doing our handheld shots on the boat tour of the Pictured Rocks. So early in my set up for the
first field trip I dutifully went deep into the menu system to turn off the SR, muttering the
whole time about how I missed the SR lever from the back of K-20 and earlier models. But when I
went to turn it back on for the boat trip later in the week, the menu selection was grayed out. I
couldn't turn SR back on. Eventually I found the "problem."
The working assumption apparently is that if you have a camera on tripod, you
of course will be using a remote to trigger the shutter. As in, why would you
mess with a tripod if you are going to jerk the camera around by manually
pushing the shutter release? So, if you have the remote firing activated, (and
therefore you obviously must be on a tripod), SR is automagically OFF. I didn't
need to worry about messing with the menus at all! Just adjust the firing mode
with the buttons on the back; Remote Firing ON = SR OFF, Shutter Button ON = SR
ON.
If you have Shutter Button ON, you can still go into the menus and turn off SR
if you want to and then it stays off no matter which firing mode you use.

Both good, Ann.
Thanks, BRuce
I think there was another reason for disabling SR that is mentioned in the K-5
manual but can't remember what it was :-(
anyway - I have it back on

I'm unconvinced about the necessity of disabling SR when tripod'ing. I
haven't seen any difference or bad effects.

I got in for $5.00 because I have a friend with a membership and
she was going to a film there... haven't been since the HCB
exhibit a while back...
Still stumbling around with the K-5 I had accidentally left the shake
reduction off after shooting stuff on my tripod at home - at least that's my
excuse
both manual everything with the 28mm
