No rabies that I've heard of. The shot was at 6:40 p.m. and I was well away from the critter - using my 60-250 at 250, and then cropping to about 50% to get what you see. Our house is on a river bank, there is a drop of about 8 feet to a 25-30 foot-wide grassy area before you get to the river proper. I was standing above, he was near the edge of the water. I enjoyed seeing him, a beautiful coat and tail! But I felt no urge to get closer and better acquainted.
