The Rising Sun motif looks rather like the war flag of the Imperial Japanese Army, so it's a bit like putting a swastika in the background...
It would soften it up a bit if there were a kind of horizon, and the rays in the lower half were rippled to look like reflections. A bit of colour wouldn't do it any harm either.
