We have one of those too! It has taken over a thorn tree on the boundary behind the Petrea. It flowers profusely in summer but in the warm climate the flowers only last a day or two. You are right - new shoots keep popping up all over the place. The Petrea is non-invasive & flowers for about a month. It was growing up a Mopane tree which collapsed under the weight last summer. We are going to construct a pergola under it when the flowering season is over.
