consider joining a different club, perhaps with a photo angle; i've joined local chapters of cactus and rock garden societies; both have a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities and there is a lot of photography (some members have published garden books, and some speakers are accomplished plant photographers); membership for two is $20-30/year
or, for the 50 x $65 the club is collecting, perhaps it could pay honoraria and you could speak, thus earning back your membership fee
