For me, the older one works a lot better.  

Looking at your picture I can see what draws you to 
photographing it, but the newer photo seems almost like
a sentence that has a subject, but no verb.
"A rock overlooking a lake."

The older one is more along the lines of
"Storm clouds approaching a rock over looking a lake".
