I thought I had commented on this yesterday... now I'm scrolling through
a lot comments about it and don't see my response at all.
What I thought I wrote was to agree with Rick that it would work better
in BW. I used to carry two cameras everywhere, in the film days... with
bW in one and PKR 64 in the other. sometimes if something was really
a strong subject matter Id make sure I got photos in both just in case
but always once the sun rose high in the sky I put the color film camera
aside and put an orange or red filter on the lens on the camera
with the TRI-X in it.
The color version of the old house is almost monochrome already, just a
flat boring color.
I like the BW version of this a lot...
As to Alan's comment - don't assume too quickly that the house was
"abandoned".. the owner may have been forced out by the highway
builders.. or simply died there with no one to inherit it. and as Jack
said, the well may have run dry either metaphorically or literally.
Might be interesting to actually research its history. There are many
such buildings across the country - some could be easily 100 years old,
out west, in a desert climate they have survived as structures but
would not suit for habitation. I'm sure there are residents there -
just not those of are species - although, at sometimes they may
prove so for hitch hikers, backpackers, homeless transients, and
some in areas where no one should have built anything.
