You can replace the spot-metering mode with center-weighted using Pentax
Function 1. In other words, if you select center instead of spot with that
Pentax Function, then pushing the spot button will select center instead of
spot.

Quote from manual, regarding the Pentax Function:
1 Selecting the spot or center-weighted metering system
Details:
Select the spot or center-weighted metering system when switching from
multi(8)-segment metering mode using the metering mode button. Upon delivery,
the spot metering system is selected.
Settings:
0 = Spot metering mode
1 = Center-weighted metering mode

Quote from manual, regarding switching metering modes:
This camera can be switched between multi-pattern metering and spot metering
modes. ...
To switch between the metering modes, set the main switch to [ | ] and turn
the Tv direct dial while pressing the metering mode button [rectangle with a
dot in the middle] on the back cover of the camera. ...
When the main switch is at [green rectangle], the multi-pattern metering mode
is selected automatically and spot metering cannot be used ....
When a lens with no lens information contacts (lenses made before M lenses)
[NOTE I think they mean before A lenses] is used, the center-weighted
metering mode is selected instead of the multi-pattern metering mode.
