I was just looking over some of the latest changes to the Pentax site and noticed that
they had a page up just for the rear converters and I'm coming away with a big "huh?"
factor. I guess that I'm a bit stumped about "why" and "why not" and that probably
comes from me doing 35mm for so long, and just recently getting back to medium format
with a 645NII. Here's the link:

http://pentax.com/products/lenses/lensemodel.cfm?lensetype=645&lensemodel=645%2F645N%20REAR%20CONVERTERS

My question is why is the 1.4x rear converter limited in application to the 120/4mm,
200/4mm, 300mm and 600/5.6lenses, while the 2x converter is listed as working with
all 35mm to 600mm, as well as the 80mm-160mm zoom? I mean, is there something about
those lenses that only they work with the 1.4x? And while we're at it, why does the
2x work with the 80-160mm zoom, but not the 45-80mm zoom? The 80-160mm somehow
functions differently than the 45-80mm zoom?

Or perhaps an easier way to ask this is to simply ask if anyone successfully uses the
1.4x on other lenses, and if anyone successfully uses the 2x on the 45-80mm zoom?
