Boris has hit on the perhaps the biggest upgrade that makes possible
the K-3. What Pentax calls "Prime III" is actually 7th generation of
the Milbeaut processor, which Fujitsu just made *public* in Sept.

Of course, Fujitsu partners have probably been working with it for
some time. Thom Hogan, of Nikon fame talks about it in this post:
http://www.dslrbodies.com/newsviews/milbeaut-and-expeed.html
and at the same time mentions it is also used by Pentax.

This Fujitsu image (of their roadmap for the 7th generation) is very
interesting:

Those two Fujitsu pages are going to give you a big glimpse at what is
going to be possible in the K-3.
"image processing speed equivalent to12fps at 24M pixels"
"Accelerated multi-frame operation"
"Full-HD H.264/AVC video compression/decompression"
"The new chip supports JPEG-HDR, a JPEG-compatible HDR format from
Dolby Laboratories. This, in turn, enables it to handle multi-bit HDR
information. "
"greatly improved optical correction capabilities"

The K-3 is going to be a *significant* upgrade from the K-5 family in
many respect.

You have to give a tip of the cap to Pentax engineers for picking the
right "horse" to bet on in going with Fujitsu's Milbeaut line of image
processors since the *istD.
