Thanks, Bruce.  I don't know why, but the textures in the root somehow
appealed to me.

Actually, I am putting together a collection of abstracts, including
the mushroom on weathered wood that I used as a recent PESO, the Roman
roof tiles I had in one of the PDML annuals, and the following
close-up of the bark of a tree in Ireland, which is my only image to
make the Premier Collection in the Pentax Photo Gallery:
