The rainfall in this country varies a lot by location.  Canterbury (the 
province where I live) gets pretty dry in summer.  I think Akaroa often has 
water restrictions.  The West Coast, just on the other side of the mountains, 
gets absolutely drenched.  Fiordland is one of the wettest places in the world. 
 The reason for this disparity is that the prevailing north-west wind makes an 
excellent example of a Föhn wind as it heads over the alps.

Yes but your elephants and lions are much fancier than our cows and sheep :)
