They are very nice shots. I don't think he's used anything techy to get that light. Maybe a white sheet as a reflector, but even that's probably not needed. Have a look at the way someone like Jane Bown, or Rembrandt or Leonardo use light.
I thought I'd buy the book until I saw the size of it! I hate people making these stupid, unusable XXL books. Then I saw the price, and that confirmed it.
