I'd add to Bill's comment - with focus peaking the sharp edges are highlighted. You can easily compose so the plane of focus is where ever you want.

I'm playing with focus stacking, focus peaking makes this an incredibly useful 
creative tool.
Focus peaking is just a live view aid, correct? Why does it make focus stacking 
useful?
