Charles,
Pentax 50mm f1.7 lenses have been sharp since the screwmount Takumar days.
The phrase could be 'Tak Sharp.'
I've never seen a bad sample, so you had other problems.
Glad you got them sorted!
(For those of you reading along at home, buy this lens used - its
common and cheap.)
