Zos, you'd think so, but it doesn't seem to do that except in specific circumstances with specific flashes. I can't get it to work with simple radio triggers for instance, and I've tried it on both my K100Ds and K20D. Haven't tried on my K-3, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
It does work with my AF540FGZ flashes, but only if the flash is in the hot shoe on the camera, not with the Pentax wireless flash protocol. It's quite vexing as I really wanted to do light trails stuff on a number of occasions. I even tried it with the X-sync socket on the K20D thinking that they'd treat that as a very simple circuit -- nope!
