The "incoming" shot is a single exposure with K-5 and a 500mm lens, no flash. Not at my computer now, but IIRC the exposure time was 1/10s at ISO 1600.
The light was pretty dim. I turned AF off and used LiveView with zoom function to prefocus on the birds on the ground. I took several exposures to increase likelihood of a sharp one, and while I was at it those other birds settled into the group.
