I don't see much advantage to this; possibly that it stretches the
fabric to soften wrinkles.

If you buy one of these, you can _only_ use their 8x8 backgrounds with
it. Expensive system to buy and expensive to maintain.

Or buy a standard two-stand backdrop hanger and use any backdrops with
it. Even curtains (like the 10-foot black ones I just bought at IKEA
for $40).

As for using it as a softbox: how? There's no light containment at
all--it's a flat surface.

You could maybe use it as a scrim, but I bet it kills 2-3 stops of
light. Get some white rip-stop nylon and use that for a scrim. Only
drops 2/3 stop of light by my testing.
