Here in the states "RA" has a couple of different meanings:

1. Resident Assistant - the university's stooge in your dormitory.

2. Red Ass - anger (very angry anger; steam coming out of your ears
anger) usually in the third person, as in "He had a real bad case of the
RA."

Maybe the second is a colloquialism just in the Southeastern US.

Actually I did get the 'gunners' connection.  In a former life, which I
try very hard to forget, I was one.  I just didn't get the 'Royal' part.
