At Versailles Louis XIV's bedchamber is at the very centre of the architectural complex, which is aligned lengthways more or less on a north-south access. The Basin of Apollo, the Sun God, shows him rising out of the ocean, the rising sun whose path passes over the Sun King as he awakens. Unfortunately the basin is in the west, not the east. So perhaps the French do see it differently. Maybe that explains why they drive on the wrong side of the road.
