Yup.

It was a few years ago, we filmed covertly on a bus - it was to see if
anyone would give up their seat for a pregnant woman. It wasn't a GoPro
as they hadn't been thought of yet - HD was still in its infancy so I
guess this must have been in the 1990s. Used a small camera with the
wire going up my sleeve and the recorded in a holdall, with the monitor.

These days, covert filming in news needs signing off by the top level in
the company - it's very rarely done. That said, in a public place with a
public right of way, there's no problem legally in the UK.

Filming in a supermarket could bring its own risks!
