Hi Peter, A repairman told me once that on the MX, the mirror lock-up flick-a-roo was not "safe" as with a Spotmatic because of some different MX internal mechanism. He meant it was not safe regarding camera precision because some shutter related mechanism could move in the camera after the mirror was up (the MX is a completely different camera the Spotmatic to KX ones). I understood that it was "safe" if you did not move the camera once the mirror is up.
This feature works on all the MX I've tried in the past. But I've never tried to see if there was a speed change after "shaking" the camera with the mirror up. Maybe this would happen only on some MX. Well, I happen to have a few MX at home and a small shutter tester, so I'll do the test tonight and will come back tomorrow with the results.
