I was commenting on the changes occurring in the meaning of words as plain text vs as design elements. In this example, they seem to mean almost the opposite; "Missoury Sky" vs "Beyond The Missoury Sky". I believe this is already a well known, properly analyzed (and manipulated) phenomenon.
ah, thanks for the explanation - i understand much better now; my sense is that the designer of that album cover didn't really get the idea of the title, nor the music; i do really like that album, but i prefer even earlier Metheny
i got much of my early music exposure from the ECM label, on which both Haden & Metheny have recorded; i tend to really like ECM cover designs — contemplative, often non-illustrative, full-cover photos and uncomplicated typography
since you like Charlie Haden, i'll mention one of my favorite albums of all time is "Dialogs" by Haden and Carlos Paredes (though i don't especially like the cover design)
