I was amazed to hear about a real hands-on astrophotography workshop being offered through our local university's astronomy program, with a NASA grant. I got signed up and our first meeting is next Friday.
21-Mar - Introduction and basic timed photography 24-Mar - Constellations, Star Trails, &Sky glow 29-Mar - Jupiter 5-Apr - 1st quarter moon 15-Apr - Total lunar eclipse. (LATE!) (Cannot be rescheduled due to bad weather.) 19-Apr - Sun and Sun Spots. 26-Apr - M81/82, Saturn, Jupiter, & Mars 1-May -Computer Processing and Stacking For the units using a telescope, they provide them. I've identified the astrograph that I want to purchase. It is an ED glass model with a 420mm focal length (f/6.5). I need to sell a bunch of stuff I've got laying around to fund the purchase and there is about a 3 week waiting list for this particular scope. In addition, I purchased a CMOS camera unit (Orion StarShoot Solar System Imager IV) for doing video of solar system objects. You pick out the best frames of video and stack them for good images of planets like Jupiter and Saturn (along with moon & sun). I have a lot to learn, but this workshop should be a real shot-in-the-arm to hit the ground running with this spring/summer. -- Photographers must learn not to be ashamed to have their photographs look like photographs. ~ Alfred Stieglitz -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
