Thanks - I will check out Darktable. I will be doing serious editing on another computer with Photoshop, but like to be able to check scans and see if I need to tweak settings etc. So I really just need something that is functional. I just kept a copy of PS CS3 on the XP box. I scan at 16 bits (especially for B&W) and that is the major stumbling block.
