messages to a Junk folder.  Haven't seen any appear there since you changed to

if you use a mail client like Thunderbird, what you will see from a Gmail depends greatly on whether you use POP or IMAP; if you use POP, by default i expect you will just see your Inbox; if you use IMAP, by default you should see all of your labels as separate mailboxes, much as on webmail; on Gmail, junk mail is found under the label "Spam", which is not the same as Thunderbird's default Junk mailbox
