I think ASAHI's philosophy goes something like this:
High end SLR diggies are for pro's - especially news photographers - due to
the high cost/low image quality. These people don't use Pentax, but Nikon or
Canon.
Low-end or "consumer diggies" are for ...consumers/non pros. Pentax makes
some nice ones. These are made for the same people, that use
basic/affordable 35mm SLR's, that Pentax makes so well.
Pentax also makes 35 SLR's for dedicated amateurs/non pros and to supply the
pros, who mainly use Medium Format Pentax'es (645 and 67), with nice, high
end "Limited" or "Millenium" 35mm cameras (LX2000,MZ-S, Limited Body??,
Limited Range finder??).
In short - a pro Pentax is a Medium Format Pentax. So, a pro Pentax diggie
is a MF diggie (maybe even a "Limited Diggie":

If Pentax makes a pro diggie, it has to be a digital back for/or a digital
version of 645 and 67. A pro Pentax diggie a Medium Format diggie - just
like a conventional pro Pentax is a MF Pentax. That makes sence. A digital
"35mm SLR" doesn't!
So, I gues we'll have to wait for a 35mm CCD (for 645), a 645 or 6x7 CCD. I
guess we'll have to wait a while...? Don't you?

All good things will come to those who are patient. This digital stuff is in
its infant. Wait until it grows up before making any decisions. Try Windows
XP on a 10 year old computer! That is where I feel that Digital is now. I
have told myself that I would wait (if I live that long) for something
around the 16 - 32 Mp range. Digital is for is for instant gratification and
those who deed it and not a replacement for good 35mm stuff. It will come
64Mp and higher will challenge medium format and larger formats, but art
will prevail. The child is still growing and just learning to talk. If you
are serious about your photography, spend some more time in the darkroom -
that is where the magic is ( at least for now).
