I hope that's not the one you drove home in. ;-D

Actually, the Mustang assembled on the roof of the Empire State building was not a complete vehicle. From the outside it looks like a complete car but in actuality the engine and drive line were missing. The car was cut into 6 pieces by an outside concern - DST - just west of Detroit. They actually built a mockup elevator in Michigan to insure they could get the Mustang into the elevator at the Empire State. They did the original roof Mustang back in 1964.

In my last years at Ford, we used DST for the trial mockups used in liability lawsuits - those guy are simply fantastic. Some of their car part cutaways are works of art!

After looking at what they had to do to get the car up there, I hope
that's not the one you drove home in. ;-D

Back from the NY Auto Show. It was a three-day marathon: two
fourteen hour days and another eight hours in the Javits press room
yesterday before heading for home at 4PM. Rolled in at 1a.m. Drove
out in a 425 horsepower Mustang GT on loan from Ford, so I made
pretty good time. I was both shooting and writing, so there was
little time for anything else. Wednesday night Ford threw a birthday
party for Mustangs 50th in and on the Empire State building. I took a
few pics with my camera but the best of the night may have been this
phone pic that I snapped on the observation deck. I was going to
reframe a bit to the right and shoot another but my battery ran out
and the phone died. Still like this one though. Right out of the
phone with just a bit of cropping to make it 8x12. I’m going to try
printing it, just for grins.
