My friend JC recently started up a photo group on facebook, Encouraging Photographers through Insigtful Critique, or suchlike, and asked me to join. The premise is that you have to critique and vote on ten photos for every one that you post. There are some nice photos being posted, and I’ve gotten some useful feedback on some of my photos, but overall it has sure made me appreciate the PDML.
For various reason, there have been a lot of horse and baby, and a few foal, pictures posted. I’m in danger of becoming the Mike Johnston of horse photos. I always knew that the level of technical expertise on this group was exemplary, but since i haven’t been hangout out online with other photo groups for a few years, I didn’t realize how much I’d gotten spoiled. There are a lot of people there using cameras other than in auto settings for the first time, and when you critique something or make a suggestion, you have to explain things. Basic things. There’s one woman on there who lives in White Plains that I’d love to send to Ann for a bagfull of clues. She is afraid of computers and doesn’t want to do post processing, she just wants to get perfect photos SOOC with her Sony NEX like she used to with her Leica M4. The biggest problem is that she keeps asking the same questions over and over. But, oddly, the thing that I’ve come to appreciate the most about this group is the rough edges, and the tolerance for them. Yes, we’ve had our spats in this group, most by and far people understand the concept of kidding around and don’t get butt hurt over the least little thing. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
