You are probably right, John. If the birds were what I think they were (Great Egrets) then it looks like eastern Nebraska is in their migration area, but not their summer breeding grounds (which is further east). We also had a report on the NEBirds list this morning of someone seeing a Great Egret in their yard trying to eat the goldfish from their yard pond and that was in Northeast Nebraska. Sounds like a migration passing through.
Very doubtful I will get back there quickly. It was a couple of hours from home and well off the beaten path.
