Hi, Steve,

To specifically answer your question, yes the SP1000's are a good
camera.  They're basically an SP without a self timer.  They have a cold
shoe, but they're detachable.  If the one you're looking at doesn't have
one, they can be bought for around $5 or $10 or so.

For $50, assuming it to be in good working condition, I'd say it's worth
buying.
