Nick,
PDML's Christian Skofteland recently nabbed a Sigma APO Macro 300/4 PKA on
EBay for $299 and is stunned by its sharp performance and ease of use on
his LX and MX. It rated above all but one camera-brand 300/4s and 300/4.5s
(Minolta) in 1991 in Amateur Photographer. I say, get it any way you can.

Christian reports that the focusing goes from close focus (1:3) to infinity
in very little rotation but that he hasn't found this to be a handicap;
focusing snaps into focus crisply.

I have been looking forward to buying the Sigma 300 f4 for months now. I
finally made up my mind to get it and then found out that Sigma to not
distribute the lens (for Pentax mount) in Canada.
