I have the non-Opti-Bright option in my K20D, the screen is subjectively as bright as the original, so I don't think you'll miss much by forgoing it. One helpful addition is also the O-ME53 magnifying eyepiece. 1.2X magnification doesn't seem like a lot but it really does help when manually focusing.

I’m about to place an order. Any opinions on the Opti-Brite option? I’m
inclined to pass on it. (I am poor.)

My camera is a K5.
