I agree here guys.I rarely set the D1 above 400 and
only until my 'good light'is back then i quickly
return to 200.I still rely on 800 or 1600 film
for any indoor horse work i hope to either sell
or use in the yearbook.

You've made my day, Rob. My main argument for not taking the leap to 
digital has been that the ability to shoot at higher ISOs wasn't

except in pro cameras. I've been seeing more and more under-$1000

claim to shoot at ISO 800, and I've been feeling sick at the 
investment 
I've made in optical gear. You've reassured me that, marketing claims 
nothwithstanding, digital has a way to go before it can shoot 
credible 
results in available darkness.

Once it can, it will be possible to use a single camera for all ISO 
needs 
instead of keeping two or three SLR bodies loaded with films of 
different 
speed.
