>From what I've heard the 6x7 lenses were superb and supposedly better
than the zeiss lenses hassy used on the V series and also better than
the 645 lenses. I don't know how true that exactly is, but I've heard
it repeated from various people that shot MF with pentax bodies. If
you factor 3-4 really good primes to match the D800, I'm guessing that
the price point doesn't look all that different, though I must say the
new 645 lenses are definitely not cheap by any means. You could build
a film era kit for what, somewhere between $1-2000? Some of those
lenses won't match the Z's sensor, but I imagine would at least keep
you in D800 territory. If you ask me, the D800 pushes glass hard and
that makes getting the best results out of it an expensive proposition
anyways. It takes fairly good lenses to match even a 24mp sensor, so
unless you just want at best 20-24mp images using 2nd rate glass. If
that's the case, you're still getting nowhere near the 645Z in terms
of resolving power. The pixel pitch and smaller format means
diffraction is going to cut in faster as well, negating the benefit of
lacking an AA filter. The D800 is diffraction limited at f5.6. The
645Z looks like its at f8 or so if this calculator I'm using is
correct. Probably a stop ahead.
