Yes, they survive the winter here with no problems.  The thorny
"leaves" shrivel up a bit, and the plant lies pretty flat against the
ground all winter, instead of standing up as in the other three
season, but after that little hibernation, they bound back to life in
the spring and burst into bloom in late spring or early summer.
