Hi James
I have (since a few days) both (Pentax 6x7). Pentacon use nice Zeiss Jena
lenses. The cameras are fine, but don't come even close to Pentax in
precision manufacturing, convenience in use, reliability etc. I got a new
viewfinder screen and the Pentacon 6 CLA'd for about 100$ in Dresden
(Pentacon Gmbh), Germany - that made it a lot better. If you plan to use it
in a studio/on a tripod it's fine, but more difficult handheld because the
metered prisma is not very fast/accurate in use. Use a hand held /incident
meter. It's NOT an ACTION CAMERA. Remember that 6x6 really is a 645 that
doesn't have to bu turned to landscape or portrait format - you'll often
want a rectangular picture in the end. So 6x7 is actually MUCH bigger than
6x6! If you later want a Pentax too, go for Pentax 645, which allows you to
use (with adapter) the Zeiss lenses on the Pentax. You can have the some
lenses rebuild to 6x7 too but it's VERY expensive (400$ a lens). If you
don't want exchangeable lenses - go for a Rolleiflex 3.5 F - it's brilliant!
Best regards
Jens

I have seen so many Pentax 67 and 645 cameras for sale this past week, I
kind of despaired when looking at their high prices.

Question: Would a Penticon Six camera be a reasonable camera to start MF
photography. I have seen a number coming up on Ebay, most claiming to have
been CLA'd.
James

BTW
The Ricohflex I bought yesterday now works perfectly. I removed the front
and rear lens elements and used Q-Tips and MG Chemicals Audio/Video Head
Cleaner to remove a load of oil from the shutter and Iris blades.

I used this as it contains IPA and a Tetrafluoroethane, and found that the
oil or residue was removed easily by evaporation.
