Don -
Really enjoyed these... Mackinac Island is a special place to me , mainly from my childhood, but I did get back there when we were driving back from Alaska in OCtober, 1989. We took the ferry and only stayed on the island two hours... Richard wasnt up to much of a hike. I only got a very few shots on slide film then... and not sure now which trip it was :-( - but before digital days. Don't have any that I know were taken there in the 40's by my mother or father. Loved the Ester Williams movie with Van Johnson and Laurence Melchior (sp?) that was made on the island.

That wooded path is particularly appealing, several of the bridge shots
are very strong. The bridge wasn't there in the 40's. And in '89 I'm sure I lobbied for the ferry.. but we may not have been able to drive
there anyway unless we had reservations to stay on the island.

All this is a long way of saying I'm grateful for your photos of the place.

If you have a moment please look at these photos from my trip to
Michigan in June. Some duplicates I know but that dam bridge just
demanded my attention. This is a subset and anyway smugmug scrolls very
quickly. Any comments will be appreciated and not ignored. All taken
with Pentax cameras.
