A new DSLR on the way?

Let the whining commence!
A followup. The grip looks uncomfortable, the leds look unstealthy, the the overall design looks unintegrated.

Maybe this is because the K500 is selling poorly. It could be, that Pentax is trying a more out there design to attract customers but they did that before. The K30 which was fairly radical looking, was evolved into the K50/K500 twins, which adopted a more conventional look, kind of like a smoothed out K-5/K-3 but not as curvy and bulbous as the K10/20D designs. That didn't work so now they're trying this. (Let's not talk about the K-01, I could write an essay on that, and have). Isn't a definition of madness doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

Unfortunately the problem isn't the design of the cameras, Pentax designs are quite competitive, but in most of the US still one of the biggest markets for Cameras, you can't actually see one in person. Pentax has to get their entry level cameras into big box stores. I can see most of what Canon and Nikon sell in Best Buy, hell I can see two or three different Canons and Nikons in Sam's Club, (a discount wearhouse/buyers club). You can buy a Rebel or D3002 as an impulse purchase, it takes effort to buy a Pentax. If it's going to take effort, why buy an entry level camera.

I'll bet that Pentax is the only manufacturer of DSLRs that in the US at least sells more units of it's Flagship camera than it does of it's entry level camera.
