Stan, Avoid Sault St Marie if at all possible. We thought coming back
that route from Alaska would be more interesting (in 1989, mind you) and
it was an industrial mess... rather depressed area. Unless things
have gotten considerably better, it wouldn't be be nice to go through...
I'm guessing Brooksy and Knarf and Wendy and BRuce and a couple of other
Torontonians will be helpful

Apologies for the slightly provocative Subject.
In a couple of weeks we planned to go to the family cabin near Traverse City
Michigan. Then I got a (late) notice that my high school class was celebrating
our 53rd anniversary with a picnic. So, we will go east to central New York for
the picnic and family visits, then back through Ontario and around Lake Huron,
re-entering the States via Sault Set. Marie. Probably spend two days between
our first overnight in Niagara-on-the-Lake and the time we cross back at the
Soo and head for the Traverse City area.
I have never seen any of that country (except for the greater Toronto metro
area which I think we need to traverse) and would welcome suggestions for
must-see scenic spots. So far I am intrigued by Perry Sound, a provincial park
at the north end of Georgian Bay, and Kagawong. But I have just been randomly
poking around - any suggestions would be most appreciated.
