Hi Jan: Your trip sounds great! This book might be of interest to you. I
have it and love it. It’s called Road Trip U.S.A.
Here’s the link:
http://www.amazon.com/Road-Trip-USA-Cross-Country-Adventures/dp/1598809253

The book includes Route 66—as well as many other back road routes all
throughout the U.S. There are maps included and, of course, the sites to see
along the way. The layout, tone, and text of the entire book is not like the
typical travel guide—it’s better, more fun, etc. Having seen the book myself,
this seems perfect to help you learn about what to see, historical notes on
your U.S. road trip.

HTH. Cheers, Christine
