Like several other well-known framebuilders he spent some time at Witcomb 
Cycles, which was a ramshackle place about 2 miles from where I live. When I 
was first thinking about having a made-to-measure bike Witcomb's was one of the 
places I spent time talking to him. The shop still looked exactly as it does in 
that photo - it was a wonderful place. I eventually decided on Roberts, and 
shortly afterwards Witcomb's moved to Wales and disappeared.
