It turns out there are research results that show that the temperature

I have a medium cat that affects my circadian rhythms 2 or 3 times a night

but for most people the summary on this Wikipedia page would be
sufficient: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F.lux#Hypothesis

This Wikipedia page is actually describing the software that changes
the color calibration of the computer to adjust the color temperature
according to the time of the day to improve sleeping.
The software is called f.lux, and there are other similar packages, e.g.
Redshift:

It's an interesting idea but I suspect it would largely mess up the
screen calibration for photography-related purposes.
