Quoting Ann Sanfedele <[email protected]>:
Totally missed this the first time around - Like both original and
revision - slight pref for the revised - the branch is part of it
can't imagine wwhy you would clone it out.. OTOH this would also work
for me with a quite tight crop on just the window and a small bit of
the frame - with interesting stuff as you have here, a lot of
variations
would work.. I love rusty old things
Me too.
I didn't really want to clone out the branch but the consensus of
comments on the original was that it was a distraction. I like its
texture which is why I didn't move it before taking the photo.
I played around with a crop similar to what you suggested but the
resulting aspect ratio wasn't appealing to my eye.
Thanks for looking - thanks too Alan, Bob and Jack
Cheers

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.
I had a go at cloning out the branch but the right hand side became very
bland and I couldn't get a crop I liked.
Next I tried adding a bit more light to the window and shears and toning
down the branch via a levels adjustment along the lines Paul suggested.
Here's the original:

Here's the revision:

Better? Worse?
I also tried a B&W conversion but I'm not all that keen on it:
