Yea, it means Ricoh marketing is bankrupt of ideas, since H(igh) D(efinition), doesn't really mean anything since being taken over by market speak. Oh, and they have no connection to the past. Supposedly HD was used because the new coating process has no connection to the SMC process at all, but somehow I think that's just hype too.

This looks like an excellent travel/casual zoom.  Probably smaller and lighter 
than the 16-50, and frankly with the ability to shoot at ISO6400, the constant 
f/2.8 on the 16-50 isn't really necessary these days for me either.

Depending on cost, I might seriously consider buying this one and selling the 
16-50.
A bit of Google brought me to the announcement page on PentaxForums..
